The economic calendar lists scheduled data releases and central bank events that can move currencies within seconds. Checking it before each session is one of the simplest habits that protects a beginner.

- Each event shows a time, currency, impact level, forecast and previous value.
- Price reacts to the surprise: the difference between actual and forecast.
- Interest rate decisions, CPI and US jobs data are usually the biggest movers.
- Spreads widen and slippage rises around high-impact releases.

The events that move forex most
Exact times shift with daylight saving in the US, UK and Europe; India and Pakistan do not change clocks. Always confirm the time on the calendar on the day.
| Event | Usually released | Approx. time (PKT / IST) |
|---|---|---|
| US Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP) | First Friday of the month | 17:30 PKT / 18:00 IST (18:30 PKT / 19:00 IST when the US is on standard time) |
| US CPI inflation | Mid-month | Same 8:30 a.m. New York slot as NFP |
| FOMC rate decision | Eight times a year | 2:00 p.m. New York — late evening or night in South Asia |
| ECB / BoE rate decisions | Roughly every 6 weeks | Afternoon to early evening in South Asia |
| GDP, PMI, retail sales | Monthly or quarterly | Varies by country |
How beginners should use it
- 1Check before the session
Note every high-impact event for the currencies you trade.
- 2Stay flat around releases
Many beginners avoid opening trades 15–30 minutes either side of high-impact news.
- 3Watch the surprise, not the number
A 'good' figure below forecast can still weaken a currency.
- 4Log the reaction
Record how pairs moved in your journal to learn each event's behaviour.
Frequently asked questions
+What time is NFP in Pakistan and India?
NFP is released at 8:30 a.m. New York time: about 17:30 PKT / 18:00 IST while the US is on daylight time, and 18:30 PKT / 19:00 IST in winter.
+What does 'actual vs forecast' mean?
Actual is the released figure; forecast is the market's expectation. A big gap between them usually causes the sharpest move.
+Should beginners trade the news?
Most beginners are better off avoiding the minutes around high-impact releases because spreads widen and slippage is common.
