OTC pairs explained — what you are actually trading at the weekend

OTC (over-the-counter) pairs are broker-quoted instruments that stay tradable when the interbank market is closed. They track a reference asset but the price comes from the broker's own feed, which changes how they behave — and how you should size positions on them.

Updated August 2026
Key takeaways
  • OTC price is broker-generated, not interbank — expect different volatility patterns.
  • Weekend OTC has no news catalysts, which makes technical levels cleaner but ranges tighter.
  • Halve your normal stake until you have logged 30+ OTC trades.
Definition

Where the price comes from

During the trading week, an FX pair's price reflects the interbank market. At the weekend that market is shut, so brokers generate a synthetic quote based on the last known price plus a model of typical movement. The chart still moves, still forms structure, and still responds to your entries — but the underlying source is the broker's engine.

This is not inherently unfair; it is simply a different instrument. Treat OTC EUR/USD as its own asset with its own personality, not as the weekday pair with a suffix.

How to trade it

What changes in your approach

Because there are no macro catalysts, OTC weekend charts tend to respect ranges and revert to the mean more often than they trend. Breakout strategies underperform; support and resistance rejections do better. Expiries also want to be a little longer than your weekday equivalents to let the reversion complete.

Keep a separate row in your journal for OTC results. Mixing them with weekday statistics hides which of the two you are actually good at.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

+Are OTC pairs rigged?

They are broker-priced, which is different from rigged. Use a regulated, established broker, size conservatively, and judge the instrument on your own logged results.

+Which broker has the best OTC list?

Quotex carries the broadest OTC weekend selection of the brokers we support; Pocket Option is next.

+Do bot signals work on OTC pairs?

Yes, and the engine treats them as their own assets. Expect a different profile from weekday majors.

+Is the payout higher on OTC?

Often slightly, because there is no interbank hedging cost. Always check the quoted number before entry.
