Trading the London and New York sessions from India and Pakistan
Most forex volume happens when London and New York are open. For traders in India and Pakistan that falls in the afternoon and evening — convenient timing, if you know how each session usually behaves.

- London opens around 12:30–1:30 PM IST / 12:00–1:00 PM PKT depending on daylight saving.
- New York opens around 5:30–6:30 PM IST / 5:00–6:00 PM PKT.
- The overlap (about 4 hours) is usually the most active window of the day.
- Session opens often bring fast moves and false breaks in the first minutes.
Session times in IST and PKT
'Summer' means Europe and the US are on daylight saving (roughly late March to late October/early November). India and Pakistan don't change clocks.
| Session | IST (summer / winter) | PKT (summer / winter) |
|---|---|---|
| London open | 12:30 PM / 1:30 PM | 12:00 PM / 1:00 PM |
| New York open | 5:30 PM / 6:30 PM | 5:00 PM / 6:00 PM |
| Overlap ends (London close) | ~9:30 PM / ~10:30 PM | ~9:00 PM / ~10:00 PM |
How each session usually behaves
Often breaks the quiet Asian range and sets the day's direction. EUR, GBP and CHF pairs are most active.
Highest liquidity and tightest spreads; major US data lands here. EUR/USD, GBP/USD and gold move most.
Activity fades after London closes; moves often slow or reverse slightly.
Simple session-based approaches
- 1Asian range breakout
Mark the Asian session high and low; watch for a confirmed break after London opens.
- 2Trend continuation in the overlap
If London set a clear direction, look for pullbacks during the overlap.
- 3Skip the first minutes
Let the opening spike settle before entering.
- 4Stop before you're tired
Late-night trading after a full day leads to mistakes.
Risk notice
Forex and CFD trading is high risk. Leverage magnifies losses as well as gains, and regulated brokers' own disclosures typically show that most retail CFD accounts lose money. Never trade money you cannot afford to lose. TradeFather is an independent education and tools provider — not a broker or financial adviser — and does not provide forex signals or execute trades.
If you live in India or Pakistan: RBI does not permit residents to fund overseas online forex/CFD platforms, and SBP has declared offshore forex, margin and CFD platforms illegal for residents. This guide explains how markets work; it is not a recommendation to open such an account.
