Forex trading psychology
Most beginners know they should use a stop-loss and risk small. The hard part is doing it after three losses in a row. Trading psychology is about building habits that hold under pressure.

- Emotions are normal; acting on them without rules is the problem.
- Revenge trading after losses is one of the fastest ways to drain an account.
- A pre-trade checklist and daily loss limit remove decisions from heated moments.
- Judge yourself on following the plan, not on a single trade's result.
Five emotional traps
Closing winners too early or skipping valid setups after a loss.
Removing targets or adding size because a trade 'can't fail'.
Chasing a candle that already moved without a plan.
Jumping straight back in, bigger, to win back a loss.
Doubling risk after a winning streak.
A calm trading routine
- 1Before the session
Check news, mark levels, write your max trades and daily loss limit.
- 2Before each trade
Run a checklist: setup, stop, target, size from the stop.
- 3After a loss
Take a short break. No new trade until you can explain the last one.
- 4After the session
Journal results and emotions, then close the platform.
Think in a series of trades
Any single trade can lose even with a good setup. A strategy only shows its edge over dozens of trades, so one loss says little and one win proves nothing.
Knowing the maths makes losing streaks less scary: at a 50% win rate, several losses in a row are normal over a few hundred trades.
Practise discipline before real money
A demo account is the place to build the routine. If you cannot follow rules with virtual money, real money will make it harder, not easier.
Frequently asked questions
